every women should read this book! i honestly have to say i think it may be one of the most important books i've ever read.

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide 

my friend katie first told me about this book and i just finished it last week. it is so amazing and extremely eye opening! ....and i found it so well researched and well written.
i do have to warn you...  there's some really tough things to read in here, but it's so worth getting this information out there. i knew a little about some of these issues women face in the world today, but i had no idea to the extent of how bad some of these issues are. This book not only goes into the problems, but some of the best solutions for them too.

my heart goes out to the women who spoke about their lives in this book and it only made me want to do more to help make changes.

so if you have time, buy this book and read it. if you don't have time to read, go to this website to learn more about how you can help.

Loving Nikki McClure...

How much do you love these images? She's a local-ish artist from Olympia, WA and for the past few years, one Christmas gift I can usually count on is a Nikki McClure calendar (thanks, mom!). I love starting each month with one of her simple images and a single word. It's almost like setting an intention for the month. She also has originals, children's books, prints, notecards, etc.. Amazingly enough, she creates these images using an X-acto knife and a single sheet of paper.







If there's a baby in your life, I highly recommend this board book . . . It makes it about halfway through the alphabet, starting with Awake and ending with Nap. Too cute.

For Future Fashionistas...

I only buy kids books as gifts. They all just have so much s***, I can't bring myself to contribute to the plastic and video games. Last night, I was perusing the aisles at Barnes & Noble, trying to find the perfect books for my girlfriends three kids and I found the CUTEST book for her little girl who loves fashion and shoes and everything pretty and fancy. Here it is, along with a few others I've given in the past.

This is a darling story about a girl who loves wearing her mother's heels (some have red soles, of course) and then realizes that she can do so much more with bare feet!

I've also given this as a gift in the past . . . it's an adorable hard, board book about fashion.

This is a GREAT book for soon-to-be moms. This Little Piggy Went to Prada: Nursery Rhymes for the Blahnik Brigade. Too cute.

book nerd alert!

so i jumped on the twilight rage last night and started reading the book.... i just want to know what all the hype is about! i feel left out...  i'll let you know what i think.

but thinking about books... i just read a good book called the help. we read it for my book club (see i told you - nerd alert!)... and it was amazing. read it if you haven't already.

i'm going on vacation soon and need some good books to bring... any ideas? here's some i want to read...

this book looks good. i loved her first book, the glass castle.

 i want to read this too.... but going to wait for paperback.

and then i still haven't read this and this.... so i might take these easy read to costa with me.

and i want to re-read this book because i love it and haven't in a while...
